Philosophy of Economics is the philosophical inquiry into issues relating to economics, in particular to economic theory. The field comprises the study of economic methodology and epistemology, the ontology of economic phenomena, ethics and welfare economics, as well as the study of common assumptions of economics models, such as rational choice. Especially after the credit crunch many people felt that philosophical reflection on current economic theory had become crucial. It is in this spirit that students in the UK and the US founded The Transatlantic as an initiative to foster debate in the field of economic theory.
